PLDT and Smart Set Wireless Internet Service in 2012

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) together with Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) announced their new wireless Internet service for the coming year 2012.
They called it, “carrier-grade WiFi,” in which can deliver internet services to your mobile devices through indoor and outdoor WiFi hotspots for both prepaid or postpaid accounts.
PLDT Technology Group Head Rolando G. Pena said, “We will install access points in our base stations, allowing users to connect to our WiFi even in their own homes.”
He said, “All they need to do is sign in with a username and password which they can buy online or in retail stores.”
He added, “Soon, PLDT and Smart would make automatic authentication through the use of the subscriber’s SIM card”
Pena said, “We are taking all possible steps to make our carrier-grade WiFi service the best option for Filipinos to connect to the Internet.”
Pena stressed. “There will be no need for them to purchase additional equipment and eventually, the same log-in credentials can be used to connect to our 3G services.”
