Malacañang Palace previously announced that this coming August 29 – 30, 2011 are declared non-working holidays, in connection to the upcoming celebration of the National Heroes’ Day and also to respect the Muslim tradition, which is the end of Ramadan.
Section 2 of Proclamation 84 states that the proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of end of Ramadan “shall hereafter be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient. To this end, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) shall inform the Office of the President on which day the holiday shall fall.”
Apparently, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte clarified the said announcement through Twitter that August 27 (Saturday) has not declared a holiday.
So more or less a month after writing this article, I’ll greet you in advance a “Happy four day long weekend!!”
